Some actual fruit of our labor

I haven't done a pear tree update in a while and I could use a post talking about something we're doing successfully :P The fruit has been getting bigger and bigger, and is probably about 2" across now. I've had to tie up some of the more heavily laden branches, and discovered today that one of them had actually already snapped from the weight of all the fruit. I pruned some of the fruit early on, but they're just growing faster than the branches.

Anyway, as I was tying up one of the branches today I knocked off one of the pears. It seemed solid enough to try a taste, and I was happy to find that it was pretty decent! Not tart at all, though not totally sweet yet either. Willy really liked it too. I didn't take a pic of it before I peeled it, but here are the remains :)

Hehe. Nice heading. I swear I didn't read yours until after I wrote mine. But good that the pear is pretty yummy, even when not fully ready. That's awesome.

Oh how funny! I've said it before and I'll say it again, sometimes it's like we share one mind :) I know you didn't read mine first since you wrote yours a whole day before I did mine!

Just a warning, my coworker has a pear tree, and she's been bringing in BUCKETS of fruit for the past week.... she's now bringing in pear jam, pear tarts, and she's going to make a batch of pureed non-sweetened pear-sauce for Zach....in other words, you might get more than you bargained for.

My Asian Pear tree is still pretty young and is a dwarf tree so we won't be getting more than a couple dozen fruit--just enough to share without making everyone sick of it :)
